Hi, I'm Silvia. I live in Santa Barbara, CA and I've been a caregiver for 20 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver back in 1995, because I used to work for a lady cleaning her house, and then I took care of her after work.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be to learn as much as you require as possible. Make sure you follow the orders for that specific person. Get familiar with home care, and watch your actions, and try to be as polite as possible. And first of all, wash your hands and introduce yourself. Say your name and of course try to communicate with your client, if that's what he or she likes.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a person that I used to take care of, and he was a veteran. He was very nice, and I enjoyed being with him trying to help him as much as possible because he was a very sweet person. He was a good person when I helped him a lot with a lot of his needs, and that's one person I will never forget because we had a very good relationship between caregiver and client.
