Hi, my name is Simone, I live in Berkley and I have been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregivng?
I became a caregiver when I first entered the employment center when I turned 18, I worked at Las Trampas in Walnut Creek.
What is a piece of advice that would share with a new caregiver?
Work in the mindset that the quality of life that you anticipate in having can be had right now for the person that you are caring for.
Who is you most memorable client?
I would have to say that it was one of my clients at the Las Trampas. I will never forget him because although he dealt with the challenges of mental health he was always trying to - live. He always wanted to go shopping for himself, he always wanted to go outside. He always wanted the autonomy to live as if the mental health did not impact his life and I allowed that; of course with every safety and every precaution and with every case note that was read.
We become overbearing at times with certain instances and conditions but being mindful of the safety precautions while also being mindful of the autonomy of the client - it just made his day everyday that I walked in and it made mine as well.
