Hi, my name is Simone. I live in Rancho Cucamonga, CA and I have been a caregiver for 4 and a half going on 5 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my mother-- when I was in high school my mother became very ill with lupus, and she was put on dialysis. And I learned to care for her at a young age, and I have been caregiving ever since then. And then I went on to become LVN. So I'm an LVN graduate at this time, but I am still working as a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be very patient, be compassionate, strong-willed. If you have any questions, always ask. Do your best in the aspects of care you give your clients or your patient. Don't be timid and try your best. Deal with this now.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is the client I just recently had the experience of caregiving for caring for. She was very, very beautiful. She reminded me of my great grandmother, and I just loved caring for her. She had a sweet spirit, a wonderful smile. She loved music, loved pictures and flowers. And she was an older woman, an older adult, a senior. And I love caring for her and cooking and just taking care of her because she reminded me so much of my great grandmother and I gave her the best care that I would give to any of my loved ones.
