Hi, my name is Simorn. I've been a caregiver for 12 years taking care of my mom, and I live at Whittier, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mom was very ill at home, so I didn't go to work at all, and I began taking care of her for 12 years. And I enjoy helping my mom at home and do the stuff that she needs help, and all the prepare food and help her day-to-day, and she's a dialysis patient too. And I take her for exercise and everything, all the stuff that she needed.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to all the caregiver, please take it easy on the old people and just treat them how they want to be treated. Be kind, nice.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I was helping one of the clients, one of those company, and I was working late, and I was helping one of the clients. She was confused and I went there. I feel so bad that all these nurses in nursing home was treating her so bad. Then when the agency call me one day, and when I went there, she was normal. She just wanted to talk to and then she was not fussing or anything and they kept complaining because she---still needed help here and there. But it's kind of hard to see, she was screaming help, asking for medicine and stuff. It's not accurate to give her medicine and I noticed that it's late. And then I was trying to talk to her and get some more information, how's her life and everything. Oh, she was doing okay and then, I don't know, all these nurses complaining about her more and more and more, and I go, "You know what? I'll take care of that and just leave it to me. I know how to handle her." And then we were doing great, get along, and I request that to know if she's having a late medication. And then I noticed one of the nurse say, "Oh, it's like an hour late, her medication" and that's why she was screaming.
