My name is Sokopeti. I live in San mateo, CA, 11 years experience of caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my parents. My mom was sick so I had to take care of her while I was working. I also took care of other people, and disable lady. It encouraged me to continue as a caregiver. So with the load that I carry and at this point, I still have that love to whom I'm taking care of. I just treat them like my own family.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be careful with yourself and be honest and also treat the person as you're taking care of your family. And also do everything right and don't do anything wrong and do not abuse the client. So do your time working for that person.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client that I wouldn't forget, her name is Cora. She is a wonderful lady. She never complains when she is in pain. She always smile and we were very close. We bonded for a very long time since 2005 through last year. She just passed away. She wanted to be up to 99 but she was only 96 going 97. She almost made it, but up until the last day she passed away. She's a happy lady and she's very smart. Even though she's sick, but she still had the brain, and she always loved the answers. She loved playing puzzles every day. She always put up the board and she played in front of the TV and she always got all the right anwers. So I miss her, because she's a very good lady.
