Hi. My name is Sonia. I live in Laguna Hills, CA and I have been a caregiver for approximately four to five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I got along well with my grandmother and we had a great affinity, and so it was easy for me to go ahead and work with the elderly. They also seem to enjoy my patience and so it was just something that was quite pleasant to do.
What advice would you give to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be flexible and also to have abundance of kindness. That would definitely be my advice to a new caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is actually a lady with a lot of character. She was well into her 80s, and she loved her scotch every night, and she had quite a personality. I will never forget her because she was probably one of the most difficult clients but she was the most endearing because she was so set in her ways but still so very lovable and sort of very vulnerable. It was great to work with her because you knew what you expected from her. She was not someone of surprises and she was quite lovable around all her hard edges. I enjoyed working with her. She was a little bit of a challenge but she was probably the most memorable client.
