Hi, my name is Sophia. I live in Quincy, MA and I have 2 years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I become a caregiver because when I was little, my grandma used to take care of me. She showed me how to take care of my mama when she was sick. I feel like from that I learned to love it and I love taking care of people when they're sick.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be patient, understanding. Because they used to do everything by themselves but now that they can't it is going to be difficult for them to accept the fact that they need to ask for help. You need to act like as they are a loved one or a family member. So treat them well with care because you will never know- can be one of your loved ones. So you need to treat them well and with compassion. Understand that they will still constantly try to do some things by themselves, let them so once in a while but keep an eye at the same time.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my patient. She was not able to do anything by herself. She needed me to do dressing, bathing, and everything. She was a little difficult but when she gets busy she was very nice and would help me do certain things. I will never forget her.
