Hi, my name is Stephanie. I live in Fresno, CA and I've been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my mother, She cared for my grandmother which I helped care for as well and it just seemed like a rewarding thing to do.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to get to know the person they're caring for, get to know their likes, their dislikes. Make sure you know exactly what you're doing and how they may want you to do it, is the best way to get them to actually like you and get along with you and it makes your job even more rewarding when you can get along with the person you're caring for.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is one that apparently everyone had issues with. She seemed to get angry with everyone and kick them out of her room. I did everything possible to realize what was wrong, what she really wanted and what she actually needed, Her and I actually grew close. Every morning I would visit her and the first thing I would see was a smile, she would laugh, we would have conversations, it was a great relationship and every time I think of her, I think of happiness and family.
