Hi, my name is Stephanie. I live in Newbury Park, CA and I have over 20 years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I enjoy helping the elderly and people that need help. I originally, when I was in high school, started working in a skilled nursing facility and then from there, I was hired privately by a person in there. So that's when I became a home health caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be always be patient and help where it's needed. Every case you go on is different. People have different needs, different personalities. Just be yourself. Be kind. Be loving and helpful.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget her name was Deana, and she had early Alzheimer's. We had great fun together. Her husband worked as a pharmacist although they were in their 80s. And she and I would have lunch, go shopping. And she would laugh and we'd talk. And she was just a cute little woman. And even when things maybe didn't go as we expected, we'd laugh, and she was just a lot of fun. I will always remember her.
