Hi, my name is Stormy. I reside in Baytown, TX and I have been working as a caregiver for four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my mother. She had a stroke. Also my grandmother. I took care of them for years. And they couldn't walk. I had to bring them back to daily living. I helped them exercise. I cooked. I went grocery shopping. I cleaned their homes and also helped them to the restroom and bathe them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to be loving, love your patients, treat them like they're your own family. Also, be there for them. Also, just listen to them, just be a companion.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is James. He was my neighbor. He was a guy that lived down the street from me. He was diabetic and had both of his legs amputated. I went in and I cooked for him and assist him. His wife did the other. At the time I started working for James, I was going through my divorce. Every day he had something funny to say, a joke, or he would call me "the girl". He gave me some wise words, encouraging words to just go on with my life without being hurt and in pain. I would never forget James.
