Hi, my name is Susan. I live in Concord,CA and I've been a caregiver for 23 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver after helping with my grandmother when I was a young girl and also helped with other loved ones, including my father before he passed away.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to new caregivers would be patience. Love what you do. It's rewarding in many ways. Just take your time and make sure you really like what you do. This is a long job. It can be troublesome sometimes but you just need to be patient and love it.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Lorraine. She had dementia but she was so full of life and happiness. She was always laughing and she was always in a good mood, even on the days that she did not feel good. She was uplifting and just so awesome. She was a wonderful woman and I will miss her. I was with her until the end. Lorraine was one of my clients I will never forget.
