Hi, my name is Susan. I live in Lucerne, CA. I've had about 10 years experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver to care for a loved one who was my mother and that started about ten years ago, she had mild cognitive impairment and mobility issues and I just went on from there to working with IHSS in this county.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to clearly communicate with your recipient, make sure you know what they need and want. Have proper skills in moving mobility-impaired people and also, just have patience and kindness goes a long way.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I'll never forget is Lois. She was a very artistic woman at Fowell and was very continually creative no matter what and people just gravitated toward her and just loved her, she had the charisma about her and experiences in life that were just so entertaining and so lovely to be around. I just really enjoyed her company, we could just visit and be companions and it was the loveliest experience I've had.
