Hi, my name is Susan and I live in Modesto, CA. I have eight years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver for companionship, for meals, for tasks that they can no longer do. I enjoy working with the elderly for any needs that they need.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice would be for a new caregiver is to be patient, to be kind, to be courteous and just companionship with them and enjoying everyday life to make them feel comfortable in their home.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that sticks out to me would be Greg. When I started working with Greg, he was always wanting to eat fast food and I encouraged him to eat healthy and also to exercise. I was confronted from a senior center saying that he was really struggling with other caregivers and since I was working with him, he seemed to be improving his health and his whole outlook and I was approached by other people saying that I did a fantastic job. His wife said that she was encouraging also and feeding him healthy meals and he was doing exercises on a daily basis. He was just very happy with the progress that he had overcame.
