Hi, my name is Suzanne. I live in Middlebury, CT and I have over 40 years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver at a very young age taking care of younger brothers and sisters, my grandparents, my cousins who were sick. Got into the field of being a Certified Nurse's Aide at 16 years old and carried on through into my 50's. I enjoy making an elderly person's day. Making them feel good, happy. Make sure they're comfortable and their personal needs and mental status is a good one.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, you have to be an empathetic person. You have to know how to make a person feel good. Do to them how you would want to make yourself or your own family member feel.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my grandma. I took care of my grandmother. She had a severe diabetic and was blind. She had double amputee. Just to see her smile, and sing, and be happy every day, you knew she was feeling loved and getting the right care.
