Hi, my name is Tamar. I live in Las Vegas, NV. I have been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was interested in helping family, environment, and cultures through motivating our senior citizens who need our love, care, and compassion.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be stay motivated. Be encouraged. Listen to the patient when they are trying to explain to you their story, as well as motivate them to do their physical therapy, in order to help their fine and gross motor skills develop over time.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Marvin. Marvin was a baseball player during the 1940s. He was the youngest African American to play in the major leagues. He taught me compassion, love, kindness. He was kind-hearted. He was loving. My most memorable aspect of Marvin was when we would sit down at the table, and he would explain to me about baseball. We would sit at the table, have breakfast and lunch together, and we would discuss baseball. We would also do sports. He had his coloring book, and the coloring book had pictures, crayons, and colored pencils while exploring drawing and coloring baseball utensils, meaning bat, baseball, even the baseball field because it brought him back to a place where he was comfortable being there.
