Hi, my name is Tami. I live in Modesto, CA and I have been a caregiver for six years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love to help people and I have a caring heart and a kind soul. And I like to be the light for people when they are going through darkness. I've helped take care of my mom in certain situations that have occurred. I am also a mother, and I love to be there for people and help them with whatever is needed.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always remain kind and patient and be a good listener for the elderly, because a lot of the elderly do not have anybody to talk to or listen to them in any time of need, that approaches their life. Never stop smiling and always show the personality that they were born with.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Helen. She was in her 90's and she was just so sweet and so kind. She was very quiet. Her family didn't come around a lot to visit as often as they should. So, once I sat with her, any opportunity that I had, and asked her about her life, she was very honest and open and excited to talk about her past and what she had been through. She was just the light when I came to work, and I loved spending every chance that I was able to spend with her.
