Hi, my name is Tamara. I live in Turlock, CA. I've been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother became sick with cancer. And it was through that experience, five years caring for her, that inspired me to move on and actually work at becoming a caregiver, something I was very passionate about.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be you have to learn to be very patient, and also flexible. And going into this you never have a set schedule. And so that's where flexibility is very important. A lot of times don't know what to expect with our client. And so, again, that's why flexibility is so very important.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget her name was Sese. She was 90 years old and suffered with dementia. But she remained very quick witted and always had quick witty response through conversation with her. She was pretty much the matriarch of her family.
