Hi, my name is Tamysha. I live in Vallejo, CA and I've been a caregiver for 3 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my grandpa. When I was younger we put him in an in-home facility, and the in-home facility didn't treat him right which made the family work together to become his care providers, and that's how I got in the business. And it gave me a better look on how elderly should be treated, and what they shouldn't go through, and how they should be taken care of.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new in-home care provider would be is to treat the client as if it was your family member. You wouldn't want anyone to treat your family the wrong way or handle them the wrong way, so don't handle anyone else's family the wrong way. Treat them the way you want someone to treat yours. Ask the family what they're most comfortable with and what their family, how they would like to be treated, how they would like their family member to be handled, what's the best situation, the most comfortable to keep them in. The family will know-- most of the time, the family will know how they want their family member handled.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I will never forget is Miss Judy. She was in about her 60s. She was more of an active client. She liked to go out. She was just full of energy. The most memorable thing I have about her is living life to the fullest.
