Hi, my name is Tanesha. I live in Cedar Hill, TX and I have six years of caregiving experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of the lack of quality care in the market. I had some older family members who were placed in nursing homes or had cancers, caregivers come to the home and the quality of care was not good. So I became a caregiver so that I could have an impact in someone else's life and where family members would be able to go to work with peace of mind knowing that somebody responsible, and loving, and honest, and with integrity was caring for their loved one in their home.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to listen to the family, listen to the client and what their specific needs are. Every client is different. Every client may have different allergies, needs, medication, special care, etc. You have to listen to the client and go from there.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Miss Harry. I built a relationship with her over the course of four years. I did all of her doctor's visit, her housekeeping. I ran errands with her. I did everything that she needed me to do. I almost became like family. When I told her that I was relocating to Texas, she was very upset because she didn't feel like she would be able to replace me or find a worker that worked as hard as I did. So, Miss Harry will always have a special place in my heart. She was a wonderful client.
