Hi, my name is Tanya. I live in Mesquite, Texas, and I've been a caregiver for 13 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my grandmother. She used to take care of people in the nursing home and I used to go with her a lot and I fell in love with how caring she was with the patients, the clients, and a lot of them didn't have family so they were lonely and needed companion - somebody to talk to, comb their hair, just take care of them and feed them. So I fell in love with what my grandmother was doing so I got in the field as well.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be loving what you do, have patience, and give it your all..
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
One I would never forget is Ronnie - his smile, his laughter, his sense of humor. He made my job worthwhile.
