Hi, my name is Tasha. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I've been a caregiver for four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I have disabilities myself. I have spina bifida so I know what it's like firsthand to need someone to help you and to sit there, listen to you or talk to you and guide you along your daily way.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be just to come in, get to know your client, do your job well and just become one with your client.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I would never forget would actually be one of my neighbors. She became a personal friend of mine for over the last five, six years before she passed away from cancer. I used to spend a lot of time with her. We would cook together, we would listen to music together, watch TV together and whenever we needed each other's help, we always called on one another and we trusted each other that much. When I had surgery, she came to take care of me and when she got sick, I went and took care of her up until the time where she couldn't live at home anymore and she had to go into the hospital and she never came back and then unfortunately, she passed away.
