Hi. My name is Tatiana. I live in Lathrop, CA and I've been a caregiver for 4 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was watching my grandfather for about a year and then I applied to Emeritus which is now Brookdale in Tracy. I became a caregiver there for a couple years and now I sometimes take care of my roommate's uncle who just recently had a heart attack so he's at home right now. So, yes, I love taking care of people and helping others. And it just feels really good.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, just be patient, be kind and have a heart and be willing to help and just understand what they're going through. And it will just feel great after you know that you've helped someone and you've got them through another day. And just make them feel special.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I will never forget was this one named Kathy. She was at Emeritus when I was working, which is now Brookdale in Tracy. Every morning I would bring her coffee and her newspaper because she was bed bound and she couldn't get up and walk or anything. But I'd always bring her coffee and newspaper because that's what she said her husband would always do for her. I'd bring it and she'd always just give me a fun little handshake where she would grab my hand and she'd be like, "thank you, Tatiana," and she would grab my hand and always put her ring finger down, always tickle the palm of my hand
