Hi, my name is Teairra, I live in San Antonio, TX, and I've been a caregiver for a year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother was in the medical field and I've seen her passion and her drive to care for people. And I wanted that same thing, and I became a CNA. And I still fulfilled an instant purpose in helping folks, and making them smile and doing things that they can't do for themselves.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to do your best and give 100% when helping others. Don't half do anything, be honest, be caring, and listen. Sometimes, people just want someone to listen to them. As a caregiver, I would sit and listen to them and let them tell me about their grandkids and their daughters and show me pictures because they found I'm the only one they're talking to. I'm the only one who they can share that happiness with.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Harriett. I was her home healthcare aid. She didn't have any children, her husband passed away, and she honestly did not know how to live without him. I was that part she needed. I came at the perfect time. She called me her angel and said that God sent her right when you needed me the most. I was going to help her live independently, not to handicap her but to help her and guide her through the most difficult time in her life
