Hi, my name is Teleola. I live in Burbank, CA and I have six months experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became caregiver because I took care of my mom. Also, my grandma before she died. And I feel so passionate take care of people that can't help themselves so that's why I went for CNA, so I can assist people. And right now I'm almost done with school. I want to practice what I'm doing professionally and I believe I can do it well because this is what I've been doing for a long time right from home.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient because we are dealing with people that cannot help themselves independently. And we have to help them and we have to communicate slowly and clearly so they can understand what we are telling them. And also we have to be careful in the way we handle them because they are old people. And also my advice would be you should take your time in doing things with them because they might feel angry sometimes if things are not being done well. So, my advice for a caregiver is just be patient, speak slowly and clearly, and be passionate about what they do.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Mr. Frank. When I worked as a volunteer at Lakeview. He always appreciate and whenever you do things wrong he will correct you well. And I was so happy working with him because his health improved a lot and at the end of the day my other colleagues noticed that Mr. Frank was improving daily. And I was so happy that okay, he was responding to my care and that was a joy for me.
