Hello, my name is Tenisha. I live in Bay Point, CA and I have four years of caregiving experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I had a family member who was an in-home care provider and she had a load of patients. I provided respite care and I assisted with helping the patients.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to display patience. You have to have patience dealing with the elderly. You also want to get to know the person that you're dealing with and get to know their medical condition.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget was an elderly man with Alzheimer's. He liked to take his keys, get in his car, drive off to try and drive to Texas, So it was not really a very difficult situation but it was actually kind of like excitement just knowing that he still had the oomph to be able to get up, move around and actually drive a car. But he was a great person and he had a great spirit. He was a great patient and I'll never forget him.
