Hi, my name is Tereza. I live in Sherman Oaks, CA and I have been a caregiver for 12 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my grandmother. I was there every step of it. She had Alzheimer's and that's why, because of her, I'm a caregiver today. To be there, care, love and appreciate our seniors.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be number one, be patient, treat them with dignity and respect, understand that they are going through difficulties, health issues and treat them just like your family members, like your grandparents, your parents. There's a reason why were there and we are there to help them through these difficult times.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Lelia. She had Alzheimer's and she was such a passionate, loving, caring person. We spent so many days together, almost two years and the time she died she was passing away, she held my hand, squeezed very, very hard and just the way she thanked me and I would never ever forget that day and her. She always will be in my heart and in my mind for the rest of my life.
