Hi! My name is Tiffany. I live in Aransas Pass, Texas, and I have been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandmother became terminally ill and my aunt pushed me to start taking care of her. And then the nurse in hospice was coming in. They'd seen how well I was doing with my grandmother and they had pushed me to become her provider. And so that is how I got started.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be patient, to be kind, openhearted, and to really care about your client or your patient. They need love just as well as we do. Some of them don't have family. They don't have anybody so they depend on us. You really need to be patient because there are some out there that don't really know what is going on. They've never had the kind of care that we have to give them. They've always been independent and so forth. So just take it easy. Be patient with them and really care about your job. Care about your patient or your client and get them through this hard time of life.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, aside from my grandmother, would have to be Miss Betty. She was the most outgoing, humorous, fabulous person that I cared for for almost two years. She became family to me. She is one that I will never forget. She gave me advice and would always talk to me. And when I was her crying shoulder, she would be mine.
