Hello, my name is Tina. I live in Ontario, CA and I have about six years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of a loved one. I enjoy helping the elderly. I enjoy making them happy. And I enjoy the gratification it brings to me.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to definitely always be on time, be upbeat, enthusiastic, listen to the patient's needs. Of course, understanding your patient before seeing the patient. Also, if there's an emergency always know that somebody will be there to help you. Have the contact information always available and all should work out fine.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my dear friend Eva, who was a meditation teacher and helped the community so much with just offering people into her home who needed to talk, who needed a meal. And she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Soon after that, we were together every day. I took care of her to the end. And what we shared every day was a chocolate sundae. She really liked the chocolate sundaes from Fosters Freeze. We all know that there's not too many of those left. So, we did manage to bring her one every day which brought a big smile to her face and made us very happy as well, just knowing that she was happy with what she requested.
