Hi, my name is Tony. I live in the city of Pasadena, CA and I've been a caregiver for 20 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver back in 1995. I was first of all caring for my grandmother who raised me after my parents passed away when I was 10. Since then, I grew up caring for people and I do enjoy my work to the fullest.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to be patient and to listen to what they have to say. It's very important to be compassionate, listener and understanding the needs of the elderly people.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I remember one of my clients and he was so depressed because of his wife that died. So when I came to care for him, he was very depressed and I carry a big gift of music that I shared with him and I was able to change that type of depression and turn it to happiness. It was very rewarding seeing him getting back to his feet and doing things that he would enjoy like playing bingo, going for walks and things like that so I was very proud of my patient for doing that.
