Hello, my name is Tonya. I live in Van Nuys, CA and I have five years experience in caregiving.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I've been in the business for quite awhile and all of a sudden my mother, two years ago, became ill and since then I've been in the line of work because I wanted to help people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to always listen to what the family members' requests are, pay attention and observe. When dealing with the patient, always inform them everything that you're about to complete or do with touching them. For a perfect example, when you're getting ready to refresh them, change their briefs, always let them know ahead of time exactly what you intend to do.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget, her name is Peggy. She always walks down the hallway with her hands on her hips. She's very warm, very giving, she smiles everyday and every time I talk to her she always gives me a hug and she makes me feel really, really warm. She's very loving.
