Hi. My name is Tracy. I live in Macon, GA and I have been a caregiver for 11 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother growing up she dealt with the special needs people, and we grew up around there, so therefore I was able to learn about character people, and now that my husband is elderly and he's ill. I'm the best person to help him during this transition in his life, make him feel better, help him to do better.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient, and to remember that the people that you're dealing with are in need, and you're there to help serve the need, so therefore, listen and take your time to do what they ask you to do, and you have to have love for people in order to do this type of work.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Miss Karen. She was blind by having a stroke to the brain and I was able to take her to all the places that she wanted to shop, and as her sight was beginning to come back a little bit she told me that I was one of the best drivers that she has ever driven with. I was able to help her with her dogs and I was able to take her to the places that she needed to go, the grocery stores, to the doctor. I cleaned her home. It's funny to me is when we used to go to the doctors and she used to argue with the doctors. I remember that she talked to the doctor, but I will never forget her because she was very, very informative and I enjoyed the conversations that we had
