Hello, my name is Janice. I live in Hercules and I have been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I wanted to learn how to take care of my grandmother who recently passed away. Therefore, I took on a position in caregiving, and I have been caregiving for two years since.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have patience, be nurturing, and listen. Also, understand that the patient you're dealing with is going through a lot of emotional and illnesses within their body that you may not understand, but it's very, very important to be there and be a nurturing person, a nurturing companion, to them as you're caring for them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
One client that I will never forget goes by the name of Xena. Xena related to me on a lot of issues with my family, she was very sweet. She was wheelchaired but she also knew how to direct me into helping her. She told a lot of lot of jokes. A lot of the residents in within our community that she lived in took onto her very well because she always was very open and very honest, and knew exactly what she wanted with her care and out of life. And that gave me joy, that gave me life, and I just took a lot, a lot of good care for her. And it made my job much more fun to know that I can come to work every day and see Ms. Xena.
