H, my name is Trevor. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I've been a caregiver for four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my grandmother. I took care of her during her last few years that she had with us, and that experience in helping her and being there with her really motivated me to want to continue this line of work as a career.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always be on your feet. Be willing to improvise if need be, and always be willing to adaptable, so to speak, during the day's daily task because you are never sure what could come your way. And as a caregiver it is your responsiblity to make sure you complete each and every task as best you can to the best of your ability and while maintaining the dignity of the client.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Tom. He is someone who attacks every day with as much enthusiasm as he can, and he always provides laughter and always keeps everything light-hearted and never takes himself too serious, while at the same time taking very seriously his physical and occupational therapy.
