Hi, my name is Tricia and I live Oakland, CA anI've been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I enjoy caring for people and giving them the support that they need and helping people. And if they're lacking love and support from their loved ones, then that's where I come in to fulfill what they need. I started off becoming a caregiver for my grandmother who was sick with cancer a long time ago. It's just something that I enjoy doing because I have a good heart and everyone needs love and support in this world, so I'm just one of those people who have a good heart whose caring and loving, and I love to help people. I enjoy what I do and always have.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice would be to give to a new caregiver would be to be patient and be kind towards that person and be understanding and just be a companion to that person that you're helping or supporting is very important. And the person looks at your heart, and they see that you're being genuine. Then, that helps them to feel more comfortable with you, and they'll know that you care, so that would be my advice to a new caregiver is to be patient, be kind, and to make sure that you know you have a good heart.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget, her name was Vivienne, and she was a good-hearted person and she was funny. She had a good sense of humor and she was very outgoing. She was also a very loving and caring person as well, so that's my memories that I have of her.
