How did you get into caregiving?
The person who inspired me was my sister. She was working as a caregiver at the time I was interested in working with people with disabilities. And I saw the process of her moving up from caregiving to CNA, and now RN. And I started getting more interested in what she was doing, and I eventually moved to caregiving.
What have you learned from caregiving?
It doesn't matter what disabilities a person has, in the end of the day they're still person, and they want affection, and compassion, and someone to care for them and have patience as much as any other person would.
Are there any caregiving tips you can share?
If I could give a piece of advice to a new caregiver, would be to treat the person they're caring for like a family member. Because nothing makes them feel more comfortable than like if they were part of your family.
What are you strengths as a caregiver?
People tell me I'm a great caregiver because I treat everybody equally, with respect and kindness.
