Hi, my name is Valerie, and I live the city of Hayward, CA and I've been a caregiver for six years.
Why did you become a caregiver?
I became a caregiver because I'm passionate about helping people. I was a caregiver for my mother while she was ill, before she passed away, for several years, and I also transported and cared for the elderly and disabled and it's really what makes me happy.
What advice would you give to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be attentive and be kind and empathetic. People that we care for need us, and they need someone who's willing and know that they care about them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Carol. She was one of my passengers while I was driving, and she always came off to be very rude and not very nice. While taking a little extra time with her and helping her and letting her know I was there for her, I actually found out she was just lonely and wanted someone to talk to. We became close, and she always made me feel very good, and I smiled every time that I picked her up.
