Hi, my name is Vanecia. I'm from Dallas, TX and I've been a caregiver for over 10 years, probably about 14 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was taking care of one of my church members' mother. I wasn't certified, but she told me how good I was with her mother. So, I became a caregiver because she just said how much she loved me with her mother and that this was my ministry or my calling to take care of people. So, that's why I did it, and I love taking care of people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be always stay your ground, never get into family affairs. That's what my advice to a new caregiver would be.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Harris. She was an MS patient. She couldn't do anything for herself. She had to have people come in to do everything for her and she always smiled. She taught me so much even though she couldn't do anything for herself. She just taught me how to be positive in a negative situation always. So, that's what I learned from her.
