Hi, my name is Vanessa. I live in Anaheim, CA and I've been a caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I feel like it's a wonderful experience and a footstep in the door, and I just like to gain more and more throughout every client I have. Every patient I have. I just want to make them feel like they are loved, and I just want to give them all my attention. It's just great knowing what they have to share and just learn from each and every one of them. Every one of the clients is so unique.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be that they should give all the attention to their client because by being on your phone or your eyes are somewhere else, it just doesn't feel like you are listening to what they have to say. And also to care for them in a very positive way. Be very patient. Listen to them and just follow the instructions of how they want to be cared for in a certain way, in a certain routine, so that way, they feel comfortable and you can be a part of their family instead of just their patient.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Lenora. She is the most sweetest lady I've ever had at my assisted living facility that I work at. She always greets me with a warm welcome and always has this beautiful smile on her face. Loving smile. It just makes me feel happy. It brightens my whole day up another way, and I always take care of her in the best way I could.
