Hi, my name is Vanessa and I live in Brea, CA and I've been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver to basically help people and make a difference in this life. I love elderly people. I love to help people as well, so I'm glad that it was an opportunity for me. I was doing it for two years and I enjoyed it, just getting to know people and knowing that I can make a difference in somebody's life and companionship. That really put a smile in my heart.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, make sure you're always smiling because every smile that you make towards your elder would really brighten up their day. Always go with an open mind, always show gratitude, honesty, just enjoy your time and it will make a whole difference in your life and in their life as well.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget would have to be Melissa. She was so kind. Always had a smile on her face, always cheerful. Everybody loved being around her. She was one of a kind. Someone like that, you'll never forget and she always loved bingo. That was something that we had in common but obviously, she won me all the time. But she loved bingo and she loved card and that is something that I'll take as a memory.
