Hi, my name is Veralinda. I live in Hacienda Heights, CA and I have about 12 years experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of the fact after caring for my mother and my grandmother, I'd seen how high the demand was to take care of the elderly, and how difficult it is to find good caregiving for the elderly. And I just love older people. I always had the compassion and patience and love for elder people, so that's what made me become a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, patience, a lot of patience. Care for them as you'd be caring for your own mother, your grandmother, your aunt, and always think of their well-being and safety first because sometimes what they might ask of you might not be what is safe for them to do. And also if they're medicated or if their state of mind that they're in, take a minute to think before you act on something.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Nate, a dear, sweet old man that was 98 years old when he passed. I was with him until the day he took his last breath. We were friends. He was like a grandpa to me. I grew to love this man very dear to my heart. I loved him so much that I even used to give him free time.
