Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
Hi, my name is Verna, and I grew up and currently live in San Francisco. I got into caregiving about 6 years ago after caring for my own mother until the day she passed away. Since that time, I have developed a passion for caregiving and enjoy giving something back to people older than me and in need of care.
What are the types of services you provide?
I run errands, clean, cook, bathe, take my clients to doctor appointments, and provide personal care for my clients. Developing close relationships with the people I care for is what I do best, and I enjoy learning my clients' stories and preferences.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
One client who is particularly memorable is a woman I cared for with Alzheimer's. Every day, this woman would forget that I had been there previously and would try and teach me how to do the same tasks. I would just go with the flow, and she was always so surprised at how quickly I was able to understand what needed to be done and to get it done exactly how she wanted!
How would you describe your style as a caregiver?
I am a people person and view the individuals I care for as family rather than clients.
