Hi, my name is Veronica. I currently live in Long Beach, CA. I have four years of experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver back in 2012. My grandfather had a stroke. I cared for him for about a year at home. After that, someone told me, "Oh, why don't you do caregiving for a company or agency?" Applied for a company. After that, I enjoyed what I was doing. I love working in home care and hospice care. I enjoy helping the elderly that do not have family. And me helping them I feel like I am one of their's so I really, really enjoy what I do.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver or anybody who's looking to get into caregiving is to have a lot of patience. Have empathy and treat them like if they were one of your family members.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget her name is Beth. I provided care for her about two years ago. I will never forget how her family was really grateful that I was there during the time when she sadly passed away. She actually passed away right in front of me and that was probably one of the most hardest things I've ever, ever dealt with but at the same time, I felt very happy that I had that experience only because the family was very, very grateful that I was there. They loved everything that I did for her and for the family the way I cared for her so that made me feel so great about myself in knowing that I'm doing this for the family and they appreciate everything I do for them.
