Hi, my name is Vicky. I live in Sacramento, CA and I have 10 years experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver when I helped take care of both my in-laws until their passing. I feel like the elderly are misunderstood and forgotten and I just want to be that one person that's always there to take care of them and bring some joy to their lives, and I really loved to enjoy listening to their stories. They have some fascinating stories to tell of their life experience and everything, and I just really am passionate about taking care of other people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always have patience and understanding when it comes to any people that you deal with. Always be courteous of other's feelings, and always try and do the best job that you possibly can do.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget would be Susan. She was always such a joy to go see. I could not wait to go back to work to be to be with her. She's funny, and she always made me laugh. She never remembered my name, but she always called me kiddo. So when we'd go someplace, go for a little walk in the park, she would always tell me about the photography that she used to do, and she would show me her pictures. And we would just have a great time, and she'd try to be funny all the time by hiding and trying to scare me behind doors and stuff. It just was so funny. Just this one, a true client that I will never forget.
