Hi, my name is Violeta. I have been a caregiver for two years. I live in Cathedral City, CA. I am not certified but I do have experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandparents have been taking care of me since I was born. My parents are busybodies. They started working immediately to provide for the family. Ever since, I've seen my grandparents mind deteriorate and their vision becoming worse. I have been caregiving people of elder age to live comfortably and well.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be patient, to be understanding, to follow procedures, and to always put the patient first.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget is one of my aunt's friends. And she would have this chicken; it would bring her comfort. But every time I would get near it, it would attack me. So, I still have the scar on my wrist when it attacked me. But it brought her comfort knowing that her memory would never be recovered, she had Alzheimer's. I only took care of her for around three months, but it was very memorable because of the chicken. And I find that very humorous and a little touching as well. It's heartwarming to know that even when people have these problems in their everyday life, whether it be health problems or vision problems, they're still able to have a sense of themselves. If it's not a portion then it might be just a tiny bit of themselves still there and still trying to find themselves. So my aunt's friend just found her companion with this animal, and I thought that was very nice and memorable.
