Hi, my name is Volha. I am living in Concord, CA and I have been caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my Latin friend who was diagnosed with ALS disease, so she was my first patient and I took care of her and helped her in dressing and getting around in a wheelchair, medical appointments, getting her meds, and I really enjoyed it and I realized that it's my passion to help people who in need to help, especially the people who don't have family or family members are busy to take care of them. So I'm very caring and responsible person. I have sense of humor and I would be happy to help people.
What advice would you give to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to give all your love, all positivity, all joy to your patient and make your patient feel comfortable and happy and enjoy life even it's maybe not many months left, but make people happy and enjoy life to the fullest.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My patient that I would never forget is Sue. She's very loving, love and full of love person, who was diagnosed with ALS disease. However, such a strong person and she always made me laugh and I made her laugh too. Even not able to talk, she was able to communicate sign language and always was making fun of me because I would forgot things at her place, and she would be laughing at me and pointing where is my sunglasses or where is my phone. Very loving and full of joy, my patient Sue.
