Hi, my name is Wendy. I live in Pittsburgh, PA and I've been a caregiver for nine years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I'm a very caring person and I wanted to care for people, and I love helping people. That's the reason why I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be an advocate of the person that you're caring for. And also pay attention to their needs and help them with their daily living activities. It's very important because you are the one who have to speak up for them and help them. They're counting on you. So, you have to be responsible and also advocate for your patient.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Mrs. Helen. Mrs. Helen was a 97 years old lady that I took care of for two years. Mrs. Helen would tell me stories about her life when she was younger, and stories how she met her husband, and her kid, how she raised her kid. She managed to raise her kid and go to school. And I was really able to connect with Mrs. Helen at every level.
