Hi, my name is Wendy. I live in Vacaville, CA and I have 23 years experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I enjoy taking care of other people, and I enjoy helping others. I get a lot of purpose in life and a lot of satisfaction by helping other people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to treat your patient or your recipient with dignity and respect. To use a gentle voice. To always have patience. To get to know whoever you're caring for. To get to know their medical history thoroughly, any allergies, in case of any medical emergencies so that you can pass that information along to medical personnel or hospital personnel if need be.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a gentleman when I started working as a CNA. I worked for a registry here in Solano county and was sent to a convalescent home in Mill Valley, and this gentleman was an elderly gentleman. He wasn't vocal at all, and he was nonambulatory, but he just spoke with his eyes and his hands. He was just such a sweet man. He just reminded me of my grandpa, and he liked to chew bubblegum.
