Hi. My name is Whitney, and I live in Bells, TX and I have 6 years as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I have a strong passion for it. And I stayed at home, and I cared for my grandmother who had cancer and who was ill, who recently passed away 2 years ago. Everything included daily living, medication, blood pressure check, around the clock care at night. And I have just had a strong passion for it ever since.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be that you have to have a lot of patience and understanding for that person. You have to understand what they're going through and what it's like to have in these situations that they should have. And you have to just take it day by day and do your job the best of your ability. But the most thing to me is to have patience and understanding for them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is, he had had dementia and Alzheimer's. And we would always set around the breakfast table or even the dinner table because I did 24-hour shifts for him. And he would always tell me about his stories that he has from the war. And he would explain them to me, and he had so much detail in them. And a lot of it was him just kind of telling his life story and his memories with his wife and his children. But it always hit home to me because I always liked to understand where he came from. And I loved to hear what he had to say and his thoughts. And I loved hearing his different stories from his past. It just really hit my heart really hard
