Hi, my name is Yamel. I live in Oceanside, CA and I have two years of caregiving experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love to help the elderly people. I help with my grandma and I provide that love that they need, so they will feel comfortable and they will feel they're not forgotten just because they're old. So I would like to give that treatment to the elderly and make them feel loved. And that they're here in this world for a reason, for us to take care of them and to love them. So that's the reason I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be very patient with the elderly. Show them respect. Love them and make them always feel like they're loved and that you're there to help them with anything that they need. And just to always remember that you're treating a person even though it's like a family member or somebody that you don't know. Always make them feel like they're being loved and that you can be helping them with any needs that they want. And also that they're being taken care of and that they're in good hands.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Marjorie. She was a very loving person. The experience that I had with her was so sweet because I would always work the graveyard shifts most of the time. And every time in the mornings before breakfast, she would come up to where I was and say hello, good morning, hug me, say how was my night? She would always be asking me how I was feeling, how I was during the night, with work. She was just a sweet person. She'd always want to see pictures of my kids and she would always say that she was kind of like their grandma and I feel is the most loving thing ever.
