Hi, my name is Yesenia. I love in Salinas, CA and I have been a caregiver for around two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of a loved one back in Arizona, and then from there I looked into it and cared for other people, and I just love it.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient and not take any spitting, or pulling of hair, or anything like that personally, as the elderly do need a lot of patience and loving, and they'll eventually come around. They'll open up to you, and they will be nicer.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Evelyn. This lady, I worked with in Carmel. I loved listening to her stories, and she would always just want me to sit down with her, and just talk, and talk, and talk, and I loved it. She would bring up everything, how things were at her house, her daily schedule, to her routine, to how she would cook, how she would be out in the garden, and it would just bring so much joy to her to talk about that, and I loved it. It was just so heart-warming to hear her bring everything up about her grand kids, her kids, just everything. I looked at that smile on her face, and I would just sit there and listen.
